Description

Population five, none superior!

1948 Leaf Babe Ruth #3 PSA Mint 9. It's one of the most recognizable images in card collecting, classic and yet years ahead of its time, looking more like an Andy Warhol painting than a typical trading card. Printed the year of the Babe's death, and bearing his jersey number "3," the card is absolutely mesmerizing, offering a portrait of Ruth with an expression as inscrutable as Mona Lisa's. Artistic references aside, it's noteworthy that Leaf runs couldn't compare to Topps or Bowman in size, and just about every Leaf Ruth still out there has been sent through PSA.

The Mint 9 rating assigned to this glorious specimen places the relic in the top half of one percent of the entire population, one of the best five from more than thirteen hundred now housed in a PSA slab. The registration and centering issues that plague the '48 Leaf breed are absent here, showcasing a sharp image nearly perfectly balanced between thick borders and sharp corners. Surfaces are entirely free of wax and gum staining.

Quite literally one of the finest post-war baseball cards on Earth.
