    Description

1948 Bowman Stan Musial #36 PSA Mint 9 - Only One Higher. When the Bowman Gum company launched its inaugural issue just three years after the close of World War II combat, the technology at work in printing their cards and cutting them from the sheets was antiquated at best. Printing errors, miscuts and general defects were the rule rather than the exception, leaving only a small percentage of the cards issued in the running for Mint status from the moment of conception. Then we must consider how few of that already slim population survived to see the twenty-first century in any decent state of wear whatsoever, much less those that traveled the decades effectively unscathed.

Here we find the key card from that first great post-war issue, a late welcome to a legend on the rise who would claim his third National League MVP Award the year it was printed. Registration and centering are completely flawless, and corners remain sharp enough to draw blood. Graded PSA Mint 9. This is an extraordinarily fine example, equaled fourteen times but bested just once in almost 1,400 attempts.
