    Description

1945-46 Caramelo Deportivo Ray Brown "Rookie" #30 PSA Poor 1. Raymond Brown was a dominating pitcher in the Negro Leagues, Cuba, Mexico and Canada from 1930 to 1948. Brown spent most of his career with the Homestead Grays, retiring in 1948 while playing for Mexico. As a pitcher, he had his choice of pitches but the curve ball was his prized talent. It is said he would opt for the curve ball regardless of the batter's count or potential scoring situation. He was also known as a more than reliable pinch hitter. Confirmed records show a 109-30 (.762) W-L record. In 1938, the Pittsburgh Courier sent a list of five names of players with Major League potential. On that list was Brown, Paige, Gibson, Buck Leonard and Cool Papa Bell. The offered card of Brown has a series of creases, almost inevitable with these thin paper cards, and spots of surface roughness on the reverse. The roughness most likely the result of being removed from an album. The display value stands in contradiction to physical aliments thanks to the almost perfectly centered portrait.
