    Description

1941 Play Ball Pee Wee Reese #54 PSA NM-MT 8. The only Brooklyn Dodger to participate in all seven Subway Series against the New York Yankees, this Hall of Fame shortstop would see his first such confrontation during his rookie card's year of issue. That important, pastel-hued collectible was issued as number fifty-four in the 1941 Play Ball set. Although Reese survived his World War II service to close out Ebbets Field with the other "Boys of Summer," Gum, Incorporated - the manufacturer of the Play Ball series - wasn't so lucky. Play Ball production ceased following the '41 effort, which was the only one of its three products that featured full color in its design. The fifteen Hall of Famers populating the '41 Play Ball set ensure bounteous "star power," but Reese stands as the lone rookie among these, and his card ranks behind only those of Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams in terms of value. Ironically, each of those superstar cards is more common in high grade than this Reese, which only five cards have rated higher that this PSA NM-MT 8.
