1941 Play Ball Joe DiMaggio #71 SGC 88 NM/MT 8 - Pop Four, Two Higher. Graded 88 NM/MT 8 by SGC, one of four copies at its tier, with just two examples grading higher. This is Joe DiMaggio's most famous and popular gum card. The 1941 baseball season was tremendously successful for the "Yankee Clipper" as he won the American League MVP (over Ted Williams and his .406 average) and hit safely in 56 straight games. His inclusion in Play Ball's first color set-produced during the same year-was an obvious choice for Gum, Inc. Unfortunately for picky collectors, DiMaggio's 1941 Play Ball card is very difficult to find in a problem-free state. Placed as it is, near the end of its set, this card often reveals accelerated corner wear. Here is as solid a copy of Joe DiMaggio's '41 Play Ball card as any advanced collector could hope to obtain. Its colors are fantastic, and the focus is far superior to that which is normally encountered. There are no unsightly print lines, and the corners are sharp with little to no wear. The card front is free of toning and perfectly clean. Near Mint to Mint condition.
