1940 Play Ball Ted Williams #27 SGC 88 NM/MT 8. Ted Williams and "Play Ball" seemed to have been made for each other. While his 19139 entry gets all the attention for being his rookie card debut and his 1941 card being in full color and the Hall of Fame slugger crested past the .400 mark has left this card - his 1940 Play Ball "middle child" left under appreciated. As such, this could be considered by many as a smart investment. The dark brown color, clean design with just enough adornment to remain unobtrusive but wholly nostalgic plays along with what is an almost complete lack of wear resulting in a high-grade representation scarcely seen in a card of such advanced age. Centering is as precise as one can hope for as well. A stunning addition to any Ted Williams that depicts Ted in such a warm and friendly manner. Graded SGC 88 NM/MT 8. One of five cards graded "88" by the conservative judges at SGC with just two rated higher.
