    Description

1940 Play Ball Joe Jackson #225 GAI Good 2. Shoeless Joe's banishment from the game following the 1920 season likewise signaled his departure from any and all card issues he would have appeared in. With Baseball's centennial celebration and the opening of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939, Gum Inc. capitalized on the nostalgic fervor and included Jackson as part of an extensive roster of long retired baseball greats in their 1940 production. The decision is certainly hailed by modern collectors who have made card #225 the key to the series. At first glance, this is a solid "excellent" condition example with no creases, wrinkles and only light corner and edge wear. The garde is a reflection of the cartoon bare or "shoeless" feet added over each foot.
