Description

Very Rare 1934-36 (R318) Batter Up Paper Premium Lloyd Waner. National Chicle was really making great stride to get into the baseball card market in 1934. There was an offer on the wax paper wrappers of the final series of their R318 "Batter Up" cards that said for every pack purchase for 1-cent the buyer would receive "A Large Photo Art Picture of a Famous Major League Player." We can imagine some hesitation on the part of shopkeepers to just giving these away. These premiums are so rare they went unrecognized until the first decade of the 21st century. The thin-paper giveaway measures 6x8" and so far only two names are known - Joe Vosmik and our guy - HoFer Lloyd Waner. A pair of light creases in the upper left corner and a very short tear in the lower right set the technical grade at VG while visual quality is much higher. This is by far the rarest of the National Chicle library.
