Description

Signed 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #53 PSA/DNA Authentic. The Babe entered the 1933 season fresh on the heels of his final World Championship season, one best remembered for his apocryphal "Called Shot" posted in a four-game Series sweep of the Chicago Cubs. So while his prodigious slugging skills may have been on the decline as this first great bubble gum issue tempted sweet-toothed youngsters at the local five-and-dime, the Bambino still held the firmest grasp upon the hearts and minds of the baseball public. That truth unquestionably holds true to this day, and while Ruth's signature is among the most common of any athlete to have supplied the entirety of his career to the pre-war era, it still falls well short of the unending demand.

That dynamic grows stronger still when narrowing the field to include only signed cardboard from the Golden Age god, and here we supply a particularly attractive example thereof. Ruth appears four times within the 1933 Goudey set, but this #53 card is the scarcest of the quartet.

Encapsulated PSA/DNA Authentic. This number fifty-three card appears in VG condition typical of survivors in the modern hobby, but diverges from the norm in the most agreeable way possible, a gray pencil autograph from the reigning Home Run King. This certainly has to be considered one of the most desirable autographed relics to emerge from the Depression-era game. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
