One-of-a-Kind 1933 R337 Eclipse Imports Salesman Sample Panel With Babe Ruth. To sell any type of product you need to reach your target customer and make a good first impression. In the early 20th century, salesmen samples acted as stand ins and were generally simplified or mini-versions of the final product. Obviously you couldn't push a full size washing machine door-to-door but a small scale, very professionally produced model worked wonders. Promotional material for tobacco/gum card promotions dates back the late 19th century. Beautifully done display posters and albums were made that rivaled in quality the very cards or premiums they promoted. The 1930's was a leaner economic era so pared down promotional material was presented to dazzle shop owners into placing orders. Today these pieces are next to impossible to find. Offered is a currently one-of-a-kind 2-1/4" x 8-1/2" salesmen sample panel from one of the most obscure baseball card series of the 1930's - the R337 Eclipse Import "Ball Player Series" from 1933. The first card features the baseball titan of the day, New York Yankees legend Babe Ruth!

The R337 set is known for its scarcity and the humorish illustration style that borders on actual depictions. Regardless, the full-color artwork has an endearing quality that makes them widely pursued and appreciated. This pre-production panel begins with a telling headline "For Price Note Reverse Side" along the top followed by the smiling portrait of a relaxing Babe Ruth. Under Ruth are card #'s 417 Glenn Myatt and #412 Dave Harris. The back panel is where the uniqueness of this salesmen sample is revealed. The backs of Myatt and Harris are familiar while the back of Ruth displays the purchase information confirming the 24 available subjects and that a gross of eight-card long strips can be ordered for the handsome sum of 70-cents! Today, no collector would pass on the opportunity to pay the original .004-cent asking price. This is an opportunity to add a truly unique and exciting element to elevate your vintage collection.
