    Description

1939 Play Ball Hank Greenberg #56 SGC 96 Mint 9 - Pop Two, None Higher! Truly high-grade 1939 Play Ball cards are scarce, and few pieces from this issue meet the requirements of the most discerning collectors. The offered card, depicting Tigers legend Hank Greenberg, excels in all respects. Greenberg broke into the majors at the age of 19 and had a remarkable career that mixed baseball and the military from 1930 through 1945. Upon returning to baseball in 1945 and in his first game, Hank picked up right where he left off, with a Home Run. Hank retired in 1947, after playing his last season for the Pirates. He was the first true Jewish superstar to grace the diamond. Graded SGC 96 Mint 9, the card is the one of only two examples at the 96 Mint 9 level with no other example graded any higher. This is the must have card for a Tiger Fan or Greenberg enthusiast.
