1937 R314 Type 4 Goudey Wide Pen Joe DiMaggio SGC 70 EX+ 5.5 - Pop Two, Highest Recorded Grade. In the mid-1930's size did matter. The small cards of the 1933-36 era were great sellers but in the cut throat candy and gum market innovation is key. Goudey Gum produced four different types of 3-1/4 x 5-1/2" paper premiums, here we offer an example of a scarce 1937 "Type 4" premium, identified by the combination of cream color paper, borders and no "LITHO In U.S.A." caption. Offered is Yankees legend Joe DiMaggio. He may be a youngster in this image but the portrait is unmistakably "Joltin' Joe." Graded SGC 70 EX+ 5.5 one of two at this grade level, none have rated higher on both PSA and SGC census reports.
