1935 Goudey 4-In-1 Brandt/Maranville/McManus/Ruth PSA NM-MT 8 - None Higher. In an age when sports fans have grown accustomed to disappointment from their athletic heroes, the selfless dedication to the youth of America demonstrated by Yankees legend Babe Ruth should stand as the rule for the treasured relationship between a young fan and his baseball hero. From his own childhood of struggle and deprivation, the Babe grew to become perhaps the most famous man in the world, though he never forgot his humble start or the example set by his mentor Brother Mathias at the Baltimore orphanage where he was raised. By 1935, Ruth was 20-years deep into a career that gave the New York faithful seven AL Championships and three World Series titles. Not to mention the over 700 home runs. His swan song was on May 25, 1935 in front of only 10,000 fans. The aging titan ended his playing days with a three-home performance, an end one would only think to read about in the Iliad. He would share one of his last card appearances not with teammates Gehrig or Lazzeri but with Ed Brandt, HoFer Rabbit Maranville and Marty McManus. While some may feel that is a shame but even the best Greek epics have a tinge of irony.

Graded PSA NM-MT 8. Puzzle #1J reverse. This is the only card with this reverse graded NM-MT. Accounting for every back option, there are only four others rated as high. There are none grading any higher and we don't see that changing any time in the foreseeable future. Considering the combination of four corners showing a minimal amount of wear at the tips, graphics a mere hairline away from perfection, no surface imperfections, no creases, no wrinkles and a faint amount of toning to note, this is arguably the best of the bunch, hitting every note for the ideal swan song to Ruth's mythical career.
