Description

1934 World Wide Gum Babe Ruth #28 PSA Authentic. The 1934 World Wide Gum set holds 94 cards spotlighting top players from that era. For reference's sake, the World Wide Gum company was the Canadian counterpart of U.S.-based Goudey Gum. Of note is that the green ink backs, which also carry the Big League Chewing Gum name and a block of text just like the Goudey cards, were printed in English, though some examples printed in both French and English do exist and are somewhat more difficult to find. The first forty-eight cards from this gorgeous set differ from the design of the 1933 Goudey only in the bilingual text found on the reverse.

Offered is one of those dual-language rarities featuring the "Sultan of Swat" himself, New York Yankees icon Babe Ruth. Using the same imagery that's found on his 1933 Goudey (#53) card, this example of card #28 from the '34 World Wide Gum Co. release shows a waist-up illustrated image of the Babe doing what he did best, and that was swing a big bat. This is considered one of the key cards in this Canadian issue. Ruth finished his decorated Hall of Fame tenure with a career batting average of .342, 714 round-trippers and 2,214 runs batted in. Seven World Series titles (three with the Boston Red Sox and four with the Yankees) complete the Babe's on-field legacy. His well-deserved Hall of Fame induction as a member of the inaugural Class of 1936 was expected by all. Encapsulated PSA Authentic (Altered).
