    Description

    Finest known, population one!

1934 Goudey Lou Gehrig #37 SGC 98 Gem 10. Lou Gehrig was once quoted as saying, "I'm not a headline guy. I know that as long as I was following Ruth to the plate I could have stood on my head and no one would have known the difference." He couldn't have been more wrong. The same historic season the Babe knocked out sixty, Gehrig put forty-seven souvenirs into the seats and claimed the American League MVP Award. By the 1934 season, the Yankee balance of power had completed its shift, with Gehrig doubling the Babe's offensive production in homers and runs batted in. When the Goudey Gum Company reached out to Christy Walsh to sign one of his players to an endorsement deal, it wasn't Ruth they wanted. It was Gehrig.

When it comes to Goudey's celebrated sophomore issue, it literally doesn't get any better than this. Not only is this number 37 card--dedicated to the set's Hall of Fame spokesman--the most valuable in the ninety-six card set, but this specific example provides such stunning aesthetics and lack of wear that no other example has ever climbed as high on the SGC population ladder. There are no Gem Mint examples on the PSA population chart either.

With colors so brilliant they border on radioactive, super-clean surfaces and wonderfully sharp corners, the Iron Horse looks just like a new hatchling from a 1934 wax pack. What better way to commemorate the Iron Horse than with this key card that shares its subject's peerless durability?
