    Description

1934 Goudey #37 Lou Gehrig SGC 92 NM/MT+ 8.5. When it comes to Goudey's celebrated sophomore issue, it just doesn't get much better than this. Not only is this number 37 card, dedicated to the set's Hall of Fame spokesman, the most valuable in the ninety-six card set, but this specific example provides such stunning aesthetics and lack of wear that only one example weighs heavier on the SGC population scale. With colors so brilliant they border on radioactive, super-clean surfaces and wonderfully sharp corners, the Iron Horse looks just like a new hatchling from a 1934 wax pack. One must assume it is only the micro-dot impression in the top border that restrains the card from climbing even higher into the hobby's rarified air, as a search for other reasoning comes up empty.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
