Description
1933 World Wide Gum Babe Ruth #80 SGC Fair 1.5. The 1933 World Wide Gum set consists of 94 cards spotlighting the top players from that era. For reference's sake, the World Wide Gum company was the Canadian counterpart of U.S.-based Goudey Gum, and this scarce issue is the counterpart to the 1933 Goudey baseball set that sold in the United States. Of special note is that the green ink backs, which also carry the Big League name and a block of text like the Goudey cards, were printed in English, though some examples printed in both French and English do exist and are much more difficult to find.Presented is one of those rarities putting the spotlight on New York Yankees legend Babe Ruth. Using the same imagery found on his 1933 Goudey (#144) card, this example of card #80 from the '33 World Wide Gum release is found in Fair condition and shows the heavy hitter with 714 round-trippers to his credit swinging through at the plate. A .342 lifetime batter, Ruth drove in 2,214 runs and helped the Yankees win four World Series titles. Found in any condition, this Ruth classic is on the want-lists of all serious baseball card collectors. Graded SGC Fair 1.5.
