Description

Only three superior!

1933 Sport Kings Babe Ruth #2 PSA NM-MT 8. While the Great Depression remains one of the most painful eras of American history, it was a magical age for American sport, and for the Goudey Gum Company that serves today as that period's most coveted cardboard commemoration. In an era when even a penny trading card was a luxury item beyond the reach of many, the Goudey company bravely engineered a new era in the collecting hobby, launching the Bubble Gum Age with some of the most beautiful cards ever printed.

The Sport Kings issue was a particularly risky endeavor, as multi-sport issues had largely fallen out of favor after the late 19th century. And while this set ably silenced the doubters, the baseball entries remain the most coveted components of the set, none more so than the greatest name in the history of the sport, who appears here in startlingly fine condition. Trailing only the great Ty Cobb as the second card in the set of forty-eight, Babe Ruth shows hardly a hint of the eighty-three years since he clubbed the first home run in All-Star Game history.

This gorgeous specimen finds itself in the top four percent of all submissions, surpassed only three times in PSA history. Bright colors, strong centering, crisp registration and a virtual absence of handling wear guide this beauty to those lofty heights. Graded PSA NM-MT 8.
