    Description

1933 Goudey Sport Kings Carl Hubbell #42 PSA Mint 9 - None Higher. Hubbell was having a career year in 1933, when the National League MVP racked up twenty-three victories thanks to a microscopic 1.66 ERA, ten shutouts and 308.2 innings pitched. He would close out the season with two complete game World Series victories without allowing a single earned run in twenty innings of work. This was the first of two National League MVP Awards he would add to his sole World Championship ring. His inclusion in the "Sport Kings" series is understandable but would he continue his success in 1934? Hubbell's 2.30 ERA in 1934 was likewise best in the Senior Circuit, as were his twenty-five complete games and eight saves. His 1934 season is best recalled, of course, for his stunning All-Star Game feat of striking out Ruth, Gehrig, Foxx, Simmons and Cronin in succession, a still-standing Midsummer Classic record for consecutive K's. In both 1934 and 1935, Hubbell's strikeout to walk ratio, better than three to one, paced all National League pitchers. With an almost complete lack of wear at the corners, surfaces and edging, we fully agree with this card ranking in the top 1.1% of the close to 8,800 Sport Kings reviewed by PSA. A wonderful card featuring an athlete at the top of his game. Graded PSA MINT 9, one of seven graded MINT 9 by PSA, there are none higher.
