Description

1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig #92 PSA NM-MT 8. Today, just as must have been the case 70-odd years ago, the sight of Lou Gehrig's batting posture never fails to generate excitement in the heart of the baseball enthusiast. Modern collectors can only marvel at the idea of peeling a gum pack's wrapper - and spotting the "NY" logo on the figure's cap, or picking up the sight of those Yankee pinstripes - as the full picture of the legend emerges into view. It's a thrill that knows no generational boundaries, largely because the '33 Goudey portrayal of the "Iron Horse" is such a timeless one. Like few others, this classic piece - with its incomparable subject - successfully captures and projects the "feel" of its era.

This gum card's status as an elite relic, while immediately apparent upon viewing, is corroborated by its ranking in the PSA population tally. As one of forty-six sharing its tier the relic stands at the apex of its number's current total census of over 1,100 submissions. Graded PSA NM-MT 8, the card out shines 95.6% of the sampling sent to PSA. The four corners show only slight amounts of wear at the tips. Brilliant ink quality and precise print registration have given us a crisp portrait unaffected by any flaws. Wet-sheet transfer at the top and bottom of the reverse - common for the issue - lends an authenticating nod as if one were even necessary. A world-class Gehrig card that reveals virtually no observable signs of circulation.
