Description

1933 Goudey Lefty Grove #220 PSA Mint 9 - None Higher! Lefty Grove was a key ingredient in Connie Mack's second great dynasty in the late 1920's and early 1930's. The talented southpaw was on a streak of 20+ win seasons going back to 1927. He would repeat that success the year this card came out, finishing the '33 season 24-8 - completing 21 games. Grove has the distinction of pitching the final game of his Hall of Fame career the same day that Ted Williams elevated his 1941 batting average to .406. He also has the distinction of being featured on one of the nicest cards in this set.

Graded PSA Mint 9. One of a handful at the Mint grade level, there are none graded higher. A pleasing white frame is set up against rich colors that contradict the passing of more than eight decades. The clean, design-free Goudey format leaves a classic Grove full-figure portrait to be enjoyed without distraction. We should note, for this specific card--and for the entire '33 Goudey edition--it is one of the finest examples on record with PSA. Of the 82,000 submissions, just 223, or roughly one-quarter of one percent, have earned a Mint rating.
