Description

1933 Goudey Dazzy Vance #2 PSA NM-MT 8 - None Higher. While Benny Bengough gets all the attention as the condition-rarity from the '33 Goudey set, card #2 is just as hard to find in high grade and, except for Lajoie, Vance is among the toughest Hall of Famers for the uncompromising collector. It seems like years pass between offerings. Considered a late bloomer, Vance made up for lost time as he baffled hitters with a blazing fastball and knee-buckling curve. By far, 1924 was his best year as he struck out nearly double that of the next closest hurler and won National League MVP honors. He would lead the National League in strike outs for seven consecutive seasons.

While the word "scarce" and "high quality" will be thrown around a decent amount in this auction, this card is fully worthy of such adjectives. Graded PSA NM-MT 8. This card is one of a dozen examples rated NM-MT with none graded higher, all from a total population of over 300. The corners show mild levels of wear at the tips, surfaces are clean, ink quality is well about the norm, his portrait is very close to being perfectly centered. A strong copy destined for a high grade collection. NOTE: What appears to be a slight surface scratch affecting the right side of his face is a shadow cast by a scratch in the plastic slab.
