Description

1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #53 SGC VG 3. The 240-card baseball card set that was issued by the Boston-based Goudey Gum Company in 1933 was the first major card promotion of the 1930s, and the opening act of the "Bubble Gum Era" of trading cards. Nowadays it is recognized as one of the most important sets of the era, one that raised the bar for all future releases. Goudey's '33 set was an uncommon luxury for young baseball fans in a country still in the throes of the Great Depression.

Presented is the card that every young boy coveted during those challenging times, one of four different examples in the set celebrating the man who had launched his headline-grabbing "Called Shot" in Game 3 of the previous season's World Series. This example of card #53 from the '33 Goudey series still shows its vibrant yellow and red hues with good edges with only slight wear to the corners. The reverse remains remarkably clean. This is a Very Good example of one of Ruth's most coveted cards. Graded SGC VG 3.
