1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #53 PSA VG-EX+ 4.5. The 240-card set of baseball gum cards by Boston-based Goudey Gum was the first major promotion of the 1930s, and the opening act of the "Bubble Gum Era" of trading cards that would hold sway for a half-century to come. It is now universally recognized as the most significant series of cards from the ear, one that set the bar for quality that went largely unchallenged until 1952 when Topps released its landmark inaugural effort.The 1933 Goudey was an uncommon luxury for young baseball fans in a country still held tightly in the grip of the Great Depression, a factor that limits the modern supply nearly as much as the nine-plus decades that have passed since. Presented is the card that every boy coveted during those challenging times, one of four different variations saluting the man who had launched his famous "Called Shot" just one year earlier in Game 3 of the Fall Classic.
The robust yellow and red hues that project from the front of this rarity haven't lost a hint of the radiance they enjoyed upon the card's original release. Add to that a clean reverse. But it's slightly off-center delivery keep this specimen from grading nay higher. Graded PSA VG-EX+ 4.5.
