Description
1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #53 PSA VG 3. From the Dunmire-von Wodtke Goudey Collection. The Goudey Gum Company issued a colorful set of 240 baseball cards in 1933 that included the top names in the sport. Some players were featured on more than one card in the series with New York Yankees batsman George Herman "Babe" Ruth appearing on four different ones. Fresh off the heels of his final World Series title with the Yanks, the one in which he made his famous "Called Shot" in Game 3, the "Sultan of Swat" is pictured on card #53 from the '33 Goudey set swinging through with his favorite bat. Shown from the waist up via a colorized image, Ruth has always commanded the attention of collectors and this issue is certainly on everybody's wish list. The offered example of card #53 from the '33 Goudey set is in Very Good condition with bright colors and a clean reverse. Graded PSA VG 3.MORE INFORMATION: This card is part of the collection of John "Jack" Dunmire: baseball fan, small-town business owner and U.S Army veteran. He was 11 years old in 1933 when he collected these Goudey Gum cards. They were loved and studied, but at some point in the next years they went into a box, and have remained in the family ever since. In early 1942 Jack joined the Army and served in the South Pacific for the duration of World War II. When discharged, he married a hometown girl, assumed the reins of his father's furniture store, raised two children, and enjoyed a quiet life in the western Pennsylvania town where he grew up. On summer nights, he could be found sitting on his front porch steps with an Iron City beer, listening to Bob Prince call the Pirates game on the radio.
