1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #181 SGC 55 VG/EX+ 4.5. The 1933 Goudey Baseball series of 240 cards is universally recognized as the most popular and significant set of the era. The cards aren't just from the 1903's, they define the era and set the standard by which all other card sets would be judged for decades. This magnificent issue includes every baseball star of the day including sixty cards featuring a future Hall of Famer. The four Babe Ruth cards are to this day among the most coveted cards in the entire hobby. Starting of this auction is a 239-card complete set (Missing is #106) that has been passed down through the family and are being offered at auction for the first time.

This presentation is for: Babe Ruth - 1933 Goudey #181 (SGC 55 VG/EX+ 4.5). Babe Ruth's status in baseball is just part of his importance. His celebrity was matched by few others at the time. Japanese troops, yelled, Death to babe Ruth!" to demoralize troops and this was years after he retired. Card #181 pictures the Babe holding his trusty lumber, gazing upward from within a highly detailed portrait. This could easily be a brief, quiet moment for Ruth, sitting on clubhouse steps, watching the current Yankee batter, torn between placing the ball into the left, center or right field stands. The lack of surrounding elements only adds to the aura that is the "Babe." This is a solid middle-grade example with wear at corners accounting for the final assessment. The central portrait rests a little to the left and surfaces show very, very mild soiling.

The SMR value is between $2,650.00 and $3,900.00
