    Description

1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #181 PSA NM-MT 8. Magnificent representation of this key card from one of the hobby's most beloved issues transports us back to the days of the Depression without the unpleasantness of failed banks and bread lines. This has always been our favorite of the three Ruth poses within this first great issue of the bubble gum era, an honest portrait with all the wrinkles and rotundity that the others gloss over.

Graded PSA NM-MT 8. Essentially untouched by the passing of eight decades and change, this gorgeous relic provides marvelous spotless surfaces to go along with barely a suggestion of wear to outer corner tips. The slightest nudge in centering and a speck sized surface imperfection is all that keeps this card from an elevation to the top one percent of all known examples.

While it may sound a bit absurd to consider the Goudey Ruth to be an underrated entry within the Standard Catalog, we can't help but see considerable room for growth at the upper end of its spectrum. When considering the prices commanded for Mantle cards from the first great bubble gum sets of the post-war era, it's only natural to see Babe Ruth in the first great gum issue ever as a comparable entity. Past his prime as a player, granted, but, as always, the primary factor in the redefinition of the status quo.
