Description

1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #181 PSA EX 5. Bold and colorful representation of this key card from one of the hobby's most beloved issues transports us back to the days of failed banks and bread lines. Many collectors find this to be the most appealing of the four Goudey variants featuring Ruth this year, both due to the greater detail of the artwork and the fact that the other three utilize the same image with differences only in backgrounds and image cropping. Offered is a very nice card that pictures the Babe holding his trusty lumber, gazing upward from within a highly detailed portrait. This could easily be a brief, quiet moment for Ruth, sitting on clubhouse steps, watching the current Yankee batter, torn between placing the ball into the left, center or right field stands. The lack of surrounding elements only adds to the aura that is the "Babe." This variation from the 1933 Goudey series has become the most actively pursued cards in the hobby. What a pleasure to offer an example free of unsightly faults. Graded PSA EX 5.
