    Description

1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #144 SGC NM/MT 8. The 240-card series of baseball gum cards by Boston-based Goudey Gum was the first major promotion of the 1930's, and the opening salvo of the "bubble gum era" of trading cards that would hold sway for a half century to come. It is now universally recognized as the most significant set of the era, one that set the bar for quality that many feel went unchallenged until the 1952 Topps edition, another landmark first effort.

The 1933 Goudey boxes on store shelves were an uncommon luxury for young baseball fans in a country still held tightly in the grip of the Great Depression. This must have limited the modern supply nearly as much as the close to nine decades that have passed since. It is almost impossible to judge who wanted this card more. Was it every boy/girl during those challenging times, still basking in stories of the "Called Shot" or adults almost a century later who dream of being in the stands back then when Ruth let another pitch in the grappling hands of cheering fans.

Graded SGC NM-MT 8. Seemingly untouched by the passing of nine decades and an ever changing world, this relic provides spotless surfaces to go along with bright hues, close to perfect centering, or the reverse showing just mere suggestions of the natural print ghosting so common for this issue. An absolute masterpiece of the species.
