    Description

1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #144 SGC 20 Fair 1.5. The 1933 Goudey Baseball series of 240 cards is universally recognized as the most popular and significant set of the era. The cards aren't just from the 1903's, they define the era and set the standard by which all other card sets would be judged for decades. This magnificent issue includes every baseball star of the day including sixty cards featuring a future Hall of Famer. The four Babe Ruth cards are to this day among the most coveted cards in the entire hobby. Starting of this auction is a 239-card complete set (Missing is #106) that has been passed down through the family and are being offered at auction for the first time.

This presentation is for: Babe Ruth - 1933 Goudey #144 (SGC 20 Fair 1.5). By 1933, Babe Ruth was well-established as the game's all-time greatest, and he enjoyed worldwide fame. The Goudey Gum Company -- the first American manufacturer to issue baseball cards with each stick of gum -- took full advantage of this fact, opportunistically featuring Ruth on no less than four cards in its initial 240-piece effort. The '33 Goudey set is rightfully viewed as a consummate masterpiece, with gorgeous portraiture capturing many of the greatest names of the National Pastime's pre-World War II era. And certainly there were none greater than Babe Ruth, who strikes his classic, full-length batting pose here on what may be the set's most recognizable card. This card has multiple creases, just one slight spot of surface loss and some soiling. Colors have remained rich and saturated resulting in an overall pleasing visual presentation.

The SMR value is between $625.00 and $1,150.00
