Description

Only five superior!

1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #144 PSA NM-MT 8. This is one of four Ruth entries in this iconic "Big Three" trading card opus, the beloved "full body" pose that is actually the same image (just cropped to a "bust" image) for card numbers 53 and 149. We'd be inclined to call this variant of the 1933 Goudey quartet the most instantly evocative of the subject, showcasing that memorable dichotomy of round belly and thin ankles that created an athletic silhouette as instantly recognizable as the Jordan "Jumpman."

But the magnificent condition of the card is the headline story here, of course. Nine decades of existence haven't dimmed the brilliance of the printing ink, nor has it laid more than the gentlest finger of wear upon its surface, leaving the corners of the card remarkably sharp for the issue. The centering is likewise far better than the Depression-era standard, a flash of good luck that no amount of careful handling could affect. A spectacular specimen, bested only five times in the history of the hobby's leading card grading service. Graded PSA NM-MT 8.
