    Description

1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #144 PSA EX 5. While the Great Depression remains one of the most painful eras of American history, it was a magical age for American sport, and for the Goudey Gum Company that reigns today as sponsor of that period's most coveted cardboard commemorations. In an era when even a penny trading card was a luxury item beyond the reach of many, the Goudey company bravely engineered a new era in the collecting hobby, launching the Bubble Gum Age with some of the most beautiful cards ever printed.

The now landmark issue was actually a risky endeavor, as its size and the national economic downturn could have spelled disaster. Obviously, the set silenced the doubters. Today the four cards featuring Babe Ruth remain the most coveted components of the set. Presented is a solid mid-grade example thereof.

Centering rests to the right and high of center, and there is a light line of printer's ink following Ruth's bat line. The card retains brilliant coloring and registration, surfaces are bright and clean, corners show minor wear. Graded PSA EX 5.
