    Population one of one!

1933 E137 Zeenut P.C.L. Joe DeMaggio (DiMaggio) Batting with Coupon PSA EX 5.

UPDATE: Please note that a slight wrinkle on the back of the card is apparent.

The Babe was still stuffing his belly into pinstripes when this remarkable rarity rolled off the presses a continent away for insertion into Zeenut candy boxes. The San Francisco-based confectioner, whose product was often described as a coconut-based variation on Cracker Jacks, was the very first organization to capture this local Seal in cardboard, a rare and important relic debuting three years before the young superstar made his Bronx debut.

The year printed on the PSA holder virtually assured a future in the Major Leagues for the lanky teenager, who would hit safely in a record sixty-one consecutive PCL contests in 1933 to prove that his forthcoming fifty-six in 1941 was no fluke. "Baseball didn't really get into my blood until I knocked off that hitting streak," he'd later admit. "Getting a daily hit became more important to me than eating, drinking or sleeping."

The presented specimen is the finest of three "Batting with Coupon" examples in the PSA population by a wide margin, and not even those ten others shorn of their redemption coupons climb as high in the numerical ratings. Text at the bottom of the coupon here reads, "This offer expires April 1st, 1935."

Only at the corner tips do we find any rationale for the deducted points in the official assessment, as the ancient relic otherwise looks as pretty as DiMaggio's swing. Black back is unblemished by any effects of handling or age. The finest example of an all-time legend's earliest card.
