    Description

1933-38 E137 Zeenut Joe DiMaggio with Coupon/Batting PSA Good 2 (MK). Years before he was known as "Joltin' Joe," married to Marilyn Monroe, hit in 56 straight games or that his name was spelled "DiMaggio," Joe terrorized the PCL with his fielding and batting prowess for the San Francisco Seals. It surprised no one that a major league club would recognize his vast talent. The New York Yankees took note immediately. As a member of the San Francisco Seals, DiMaggio had a 61-game hitting streak that surpassed even his Major League streak. Appearing years before his official rookie card, the Collins-McCarthy company included the star Seal in their annual Zeenut card promotion., thus making his card debut in 1933. Such was his status that Joe was honored with two different cards, one of him throwing and this, the more scarce version showing him batting and who could have picked a more prophetic image of the future Yankees legend. The cards came with a coupon along the bottom of every card and Zeenut enthusiasts know that is a practically unique bonus to have this still intact. In any condition, this is an extremely scarce and historically important card which chronicles one of baseballs' best from the earliest years of his professional career.
Graded PSA Good 2 (MK), this is one of two confirmed cards with the Zeenut coupon, the second and only other on record is also graded Good but no qualifier. We should note that none of the cards graded without a coupon rate any higher on the grading scale than this card. The card presents as would a card in close to excellent condition. Closer review reveals a crease on the left of the crisp and finely detailed "batting" pose and some corner wear. The qualifier reflects pencil writing that has been erased to the point where only traces of the pencil remain. Currently, there are only eight cards submitted of the "Batting" pose (with and without coupons) and 15 of the "Throwing" variety (with and without coupons). Both are extremely difficult to find in any condition and it is exceedingly rare to find with the coupon still intact.
