1932 U.S. Caramel Ty Cobb #14 PSA Mint 9 - Pop Three, None Higher. As with any occupation, the responsibility to secure cards to satisfy the collecting appetites of passionate hobbyists has it high and lows. Not that sorting a large collection of 1981 Topps baseball doesn't have its merits, it is that one phone call, that one email that holds great promise. What makes the 1932 U. S. caramel series so fascinating is the extensive list of Hall of Fame golf, boxing and baseball talent packed into a roster of just 32 names. Just how rare is this final caramel issue is surprising when you look at census numbers. While there's little dispute that T206 cards inhabit the throne as king of the card-collecting world, the presented Cobb represents just one of only eighty-three total submission noted on the PSA census. Compared to his four T206 appearances, this card is submitted less than 10% as often as any one of the quartet and they are over twenty years and a World War older. That elevates the presented specimen into the most rarified of collecting air.
Graded PSA Mint 9. One of just three examples graded MINT with none graded higher. Whatever you want from a certified Mint condition card is present and accounted for. Colors are fresh and bold. Centering is close to perfect. The outer white frame is immaculate adding a brilliance to its visual appeal. Corners are of the highest quality and a quick flip reveals a clean back with precisely centered print. The final stars aligned with Cobb's portrait gleaming in tight registration. The hobby does have two other examples of matching quality to enjoy and one can only guess if one of them will ever see the light of day. This is a card that once procured does not become available in the foreseeable future.
