Description

1932 U.S. Caramel Tony Lazzeri #18 PSA NM-MT 8 - None Higher. The Hall of Fame second baseman thrived in the shadows of his iconic teammates Ruth, Gehrig and DiMaggio, pairing power unprecedented in a middle infielder with steady fielding to earn a starting position with the first American League All-Star team in 1933. He remains the only man in Major League history to record two grand slams in a single contest, a 1936 game during which he set the American League RBI record of eleven. As the first great Italian player to take up residence in the melting pot of New York City, Lazzeri was a hero to that demographic and a major force in popularizing our National Pastime within that nation's immigrant population. "He didn't discover America," reported The New York Times, "but Columbus never went behind third for an overthrow to cut off the tying run in the ninth inning." The offered card is very bright and clean with four "minty" corners. Graded PSA NM-MT 8. One of eleven in NM-MT with none graded higher.
