    Description

1932 U.S. Caramel Jack Dempsey #22 PSA NM-MT+ 8.5 - Pop One, None Higher! Jack Dempsey was an icon of the Roaring Twenties who was just as popular, if not more popular, than Babe Ruth. Dempsey was a crowd favorite and sold out arenas wherever he went. Under Kearns management and Tex Rickard promoting, he became a legend in his time. Dempsey would begin to emerge as a real threat in 1919 against Jess Willard. Willard was bigger. Dempsey was the better fighter winning in the fourth round. On September 23, 1926 Dempsey fought Gene Tunney. Dempsey lost his title but the two met again on September 22, 1927 in Chicago in a fight long since known as "The Long Count." Tunney was knocked down in the 7th round, but Dempsey did not go to a neutral corner, delaying the referee's count. Tunney survived and won the decision three rounds later. Dempsey retired in 1928. If the label read "Mint" we think few, is any, would question it. Graded PSA NM-MT+ 8.5. The only example graded NM-MT+ with none higher from a total pop of just forty submissions.
