1932 U.S. Caramel Bill Terry #4 PSA Mint 9 - Pop One, None Higher! It is unanimous in the hearts and minds of baseball fans that 500 career wins is the benchmark that will never again be attained. For hitters, a most revered number is the 3,000 hits plateau but to many it is ".400." In 1930 it was HoFer Bill Terry of the New York Giants who belted out 254 hits on 633 at-bats produced a historic .401 average. That would rank as the last season to produce a .400 batting average except for another master at the plate - Ted Williams - batted .406 in what would still go down in history as an historic season of 1941. In an era when the long ball exploits of Ruth, Gehrig and Foxx received column and headlines on all the sports pages, "Memphis Bill" was quietly constructing a career that would end at Cooperstown and a number fifty-nine ranking on The Sporting News' list of the 100 Greatest Baseball Players of All-Time. Like the passing of Ruth to DiMaggio for the spot in the Yankees outfield, 1933 would witness Terry taking the reins at the helm as manager of the New York Giants from John McGraw who retired in 1932 after a career managing that dated back to 1899. Terry came through for the Giants faithful taking the team to a World Series title.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
