Description
1932 U.S. Caramel Babe Ruth #32 PSA NM-MT 8 - Only Two Higher! Caramel cards have two strikes against them from the very day they are circulated. Falling victim to staining with which they were packaged with and having a target market possessing sticky hands makes high grade survival problematic. Next, we must consider that a Ruth card dating from his "Called Shot" fame, would have been quite well-loved at the time, and hence bearing the signs of handling by young hands that couldn't possibly have understood the card's destiny of great monetary value. Thirdly, the Babe found himself the final card in this issue of thirty-two, leaving him in real danger of the excess wear generally plaguing the first and last cards in a set. And, finally, lest we forget, the card is eighty-plus years old!Graded PSA NM-MT 8, surprisingly, this card is one of a thirteen (could there be a few grade reviews in that number?) to earn the assessment with just two others rated higher! With a total PSA population currently at 119, the existence of one so fine challenges the laws of probability. The only hints of the passing of eight decades lie in the slight mellowing of the white frame and perhaps the mildest touch of foxing at the outer corner tips. Sheet transfer, common with this issue is barely perceivable on the reverse. The condition report wouldn't be complete without the mention of the absence of any printing imperfections and a close-to-perfectly-centered portrait benefiting from precise color registration. The reverse is as vibrant and free of imperfections as is the obverse. A tremendous addition to any vintage baseball card of Babe Ruth specialty collection.
