Description
1932 U.S. Caramel Babe Ruth #32 PSA Mint 9 - Pop Two, None Higher! Caramel cards have two strikes against them from the very day they are circulated. Falling victim to staining with which they were packaged with and having a target market possessing sticky hands makes high grade survival problematic. Next, we must consider that a Ruth card dating from his "Called Shot" fame, would have been quite well-loved at the time, and hence bearing the signs of handling by young hands that couldn't possibly have understood the card's destiny of great monetary value. Thirdly, the Babe found himself the final card in this issue of thirty-two, leaving him in real danger of the excess wear generally plaguing the first and last cards in a set. And, finally, lest we forget, the card is eighty-plus years oldGraded PSA Mint 9. One of just two examples graded MINT with none graded higher! Should we be surprised the total pop for Ruth is currently at 137 cards, almost double the average player population from this noticeably obscure release? No. Considering cards of Babe Ruth cards are submitted for third-party grading regardless of condition, we should be struck by what a truly paltry number 137 is for one of the most famous names of the 20th century. Soon, the average number of submissions of the four Ruth cards from the 1933 Goudey series will reach the 1,000 plateau.
Condition is predictably spectacular, considering the PSA rating. Sheet transfer, typical with this issue, is barely perceptible on the reverse. Poor registration is likewise a common stumble for this issue, but the printers nailed it this time. The reverse is as vibrant and free of imperfections as is the obverse. A tremendous addition to any vintage baseball card or Babe Ruth specialty collection.
