1931 W517 Babe Ruth, Throwing #4 BVG Authentic With Piercy's Confectionery Stamp. The 54-card W517 set is an issue of 3" x 4" cards generally found in Green or sepia color, though other colors are known. The cards were sold in vertical strips of three cards, examples of which are available in this auction. By 1931 Babe Ruth was a baseball and social celebrity with no equal. His status afforded him not one, but two cards in this series, offered is his "Throwing" pose, card #4 in green ink. The card says "Yankees" but the image is of a younger Ruth, possibly going back to his Red Sox days. With no formal credits printed on the cards, Piercy's Confectionery of Petersburg, Virginia has put their stamp on the back creating a unique Ruth collectible. Encapsulated BVG Authentic.
