Description

Signed 1907 PC765 Dietsche Post Card Ty Cobb, Fielding PSA/DNA Authentic. In 1907, the Detroit Tigers became the toast of the town by winning their first American League Pennant in the team's short history. As part of the celebration, there were multiple promotions, giveaways, etc. showcasing the team and individual players. Issued for the '07 World Series was a set of 16 post cards produced by the Dietsche Postcard Company of Detroit, today they are not the easiest collectible to encounter. The top name was the young hitter from Georgia named Ty Cobb. In fact, Cobb had two cards in this set, one of him batting (naturally) and the other a much rarer version of Cobb, with glove extended, about to catch a fly ball.. In any condition, this variation is missing from most Dietsche collections. With that we are proud to present what is the only example of this rookie year Cobb collectible that is autographed by the baseball legend. Our research has not exposed another but we know never to say never. The front presents as a solid middle-grade example. A "@ 1907 photo" ink notation, an area of surface loss and another area where paper is adhered to the back. The black fountain pen signature contrasts nicely against the mid-gray surrounding. Signed with a bold hand, we conservatively call the signature an "8." Unsigned, this is a prime Cobb acquisition. Signed, it is a must have addition for the Cobb specialist.
