Signed 1989 Upper Deck Baseball Near Set (774/800). The 1989 Upper Deck set was to the 1980's that the 1952 Topps Baseball set was to the 1950's. Both sets set the standard for design, production value and marketing. The 800-card series opened the flood gates for trading cards like no other time cementing itself as a benchmark against all sets issued sine would be compared. The set still holds a passionate following and here we offer a very special presentation. Offered is a 774-card near set but each and every card has been autographed on the front by the featured player. The list of HoFers includes Ryan, Murray, Ripken, Sutter, Rice, Schmidt, Boggs, R. Johnson and O. Smith plus stars who made the era so exciting like Doc Gooden, Daryl Strawberry, Don Mattingly, Dale Murphy, Andre Dawson, K. Gibson and many others. Plus this set opens with what has become the most iconic card of the modern era - #1 featuring HoFer Ken Griffey, Jr.! Card #27 and the eight checklist cards have no signatures. All are in marker or sharpie, the majority are blue signatures with black accounting for the all but a handful of the rest. Some cards have jersey numbers, bible verses added. Just a few have named inscriptions. Cards are in NM or better, the overwhelming majority of the signatures would rate "8" or better.
