Description
The most iconic post-war baseball issue!
Period Signed 1952 Topps Baseball Partial Set (261/407) - From
The Golden Age Collection.CORRECTION: Card #'s 374, 381, and 387 are not signed.
When talking about post-war baseball sets, the conversation starts with the 1952 Topps baseball release. Topps announced themselves as a major player in the trading card business with some authority with these beauties. The HOF lineup, the intrigue behind the high numbers combined with the bold colors with the front of the card putting the onus on the featured player. The front of each card does include the logo of the players team, but, it does not overwhelm the card. The players name and facsimile signature inside a small black border also is quite discreet.
Offered here is a period signed 1952 Topps baseball partial set of 261 cards. It may be missing some of the bigger names that makes collectors salivate, but the offered cards here still packs a Hall of Fame and All-Star punch. Add the fact that each example offered here was signed in which each player patrolled the diamonds when baseball was truly America's Pastime. The sounds of the game could be heard from living rooms and porches, families tuned into their favorite radio voice and hanging on every word while sipping tea, lemonade or something a little harder for the adults. For those lucky enough to live close enough to the cathedrals that these players called home, they filled these stadiums, living and dying with every pitch.
Most collectors can only dream of assembling even a partial set of the iconic 1952 Topps baseball release, but this offering brings that dream within reach. Representing a cornerstone in hobby history, these cards carry immense historical weight and collector prestige. Enhanced further by authentic on-card autographs, this collection bridges the golden era of baseball with the personal touch of its legends.
One card has been graded by PSA. More Information: The Golden Age Collection – Part Three
Heritage Auctions is proud to offer to the sports collectibles marketplace one of the finest collections of vintage signed sports cards ever assembled. This remarkable collection was meticulously cultivated by a single passionate visionary over many decades, with nearly every piece bearing a signature that matches the vintage of its medium. At the core of the collection is a breathtaking run of signed cards spanning several years from the late 1940s through the mid-1950s, widely regarded as the golden age of post-war sports cards. It includes complete or near-complete signed sets from many of the most coveted baseball issues of the period, including 1948-55 Bowman and 1952–1955 Topps runs. Also included are 1948 Bowman Basketball and seldom seen autographed football sets, such as 1948-55 Bowman, 1948 Leaf, and 1950s Topps sets. Each set is a masterclass in curation. In addition to iconic stars and Hall of Famers, there are countless cards bearing period signatures that are incredibly tough to find, either due to the short lives of the players or the relative obscurity of their careers. For set collectors and autograph purists alike, this grouping represents an unfathomable opportunity.
The collection's strength lies in its harmony of condition, completeness, and character, which is an homage to the pure intentions of its creator. With impeccable provenance and a once-in-a-generation level of aesthetic quality, this collection is a celebration of the intersection of sport, history and the spirit of collecting, offering pieces that transcend the hobby and enter the realm of legacy.
This offering is the third part of The Golden Age Collection with the remainder of the collection to be offered in future auctions.
