Late 1860's CDV Photograph Album with Baseball Image. How often does one have to take a stroll back in time? Offered is an amazing album of late 19th century CDV photographs (one ferrotype) housed inside a sizeable 9 x 6 x 2-1/2" hand crafted leather "Photographs" album. Embossed decoration appears on front and back covers plus fore edges of interior pages which are also embossed with a flower design, all nicely kept closed by two metal clasp closures. Inside you start your journey with a dedication page that reads, "Presented to John Watts. By A. L. Bancraft. New York City. June 1869." A pair of photos, one with a trio of men dressed in baseball attire, identify a "Watts" who we assume to be the recipient of this album over 140 years ago. Interior pages are designed to hold four CDVs each. Portraits include an array of elegantly dressed men (some in military uniform), women and children, some with names/dates written on the reverse. Photo credits go to studios in New York, Cincinnati, New Mexico, St. Louis, Louisville, Philadelphia plus others. The condition of the photos is overall excellent, the only detrimental condition element is the inner spine which is separated leaving the still bound interior pages attached to the inner back cover. The lone confirmed baseball image has the names "Keiting" "Watts" and "Thacher" and is dated 1867 with a N. Brown & Son Photographers (Santa Fe, New Mexico). Just a very cool piece harkening back to a pivotal era in American history.Auction Info
