Description
Extremely Rare 1955 Rodeo Meats Send-In Album With 28 Cards and Autographs! To the best of our research, this is the first time this extremely rare Rodeo Meats album is being made available at public auction. This rarity was the personal copy of team trainer Jim Ewell and comes to us from a descendant of Mr. Ewell. In 1955, Rodeo Meats celebrated the arrival of the newly founded Kansas City Athletics after they moved from Philadelphia with a promotion of trading cards showcasing members of the team. To house these cards, a specially designed album was advertised on the back of every card. Few have ever made claim to seeing that album. This is that album plus a near set of cards! To modern hobbyists, the extremely limited distribution and placement along hot dog packages has not only made finding examples in mid- to high-grade challenging but simply finding any example in any condition difficult. The offered multi-page album is designed to house 37 player/coaches cards, bios on 29 members plus a season schedule and stadium information of American League ball parks. Inside you find 28 different cards (all presenting EX to NM or better) including Astroth, Boudreau, Cloyd, Boyer, Ceccarelli, DeMaestri, Ditmar, Finigan, Gorman, Herbert, Kellner, Kraft, Littrell, Lopez, Melilo, Portocarrero, Power, Raschi, Renna, Sain, B. Shantz/Correct, W. Shantz, Simpson, Slaughter, Sleater, Susce, Valo, Wilson and Zernial all dutifully adhered to the paper. Clete Boyer and John Gray signed the first page but do not have cards included. Jim Ewell has signed under a B/W photo of him and DeMaestri. Ewell wasn't included in the series. As an added bonus, every player has signed the album next to his card! The 8-3/8" x 10-7/8" album shows a wrinkle in the upper right corner of every page, a few spots of surface scuffing on the outer covers and some light soiling. Visually, it is close to excellent condition and is so rare it took the personal collection from a team employee to make one available!Auction Info
