1993 Topps Finest Baseball Refractor Complete Set (199) - #11 on the PSA Set Registry. Not sine the early 20th century had had collecting trading cards been so exciting. Collecting cards in the 1980's and 1990's could not have been more fun. It was a era of tremendous growth and innovation for card production, designs and innovation. The one set that set the benchmark was the so appropriately titled Topps "Finest" line in 1993. The set introduced the term "base set" as we use it today as well as the chromium card which would give the hobby the Topps and Bowman Chrome brands in the years to come. The tried and true glossy base cards were all knew and loved were now all more special, more attractive, more enticing. The parallel card was also brought to light with only the latest and greatest, dare we say "finest" upgrade in the parallel Rerfractor card. All of these improvements and the player's position and team can not be found on the obverse design. While showcasing the finest MLB talent of the day, another historical staple, and fan favorite, was overlooked - the rookie card. It was both the inclusion and circulation rates of these inserts or parallels that truly formed the hobby for decades.

The base set of 199 cards focuses on established stars with thirty-two uniquely designed All-Star cards placed in the middle of the set (#84-#116) who do not appear elsewhere in the set. A box contained 18 packs with each pack having six cards and make no mistake, this was a popular issue but it is those rainbow-colored Refractors which grabbed our attention and drove those sales. Refractors were only inserted two per box (on average).

With such a stingy rate of inclusion, it with perfect luck of the draw it would take the purchase of a minimum of 100 boxes to complete a refractors set. The "with perfect luck" would have to include over thirty refractors that were short prints, ironically a tradition brought back from past Topps issues. THIS dazzling gallery is going to allow one lucky hobbyists the chance to add this inaugural edition to their collection. Every card is graded by PSA. Every card is graded MINT or GEM MINT! Currently this set ranks #11 on the "Current Finest" list on the PSA Set Registry.
