1973 Topps Baseball Candy Lids Proof Partial Set (34/55). It's always nice to offer something out of the ordinary. In the early 1970's, Topps produced "Baseball Starts Bubble Gum" which was a container filled with candy and inserted inside the top lid was a contemporary baseball player. The 55 different subjects includes a lengthy list of the best names of the era. Offered is a gallery of 34 different players, still in proof form, are hand cut, fully printed but not die-cut. Each measures the traditional 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" in size. Third party services will not assign a numeric grade to these proofs and we already know they are authentic. Seven have been slabbed by CSA years ago. Includes: CSA 8-NMMT: 3 cards, Hunter, Jackson and Munson; CSA NM+ 7.5: 1 card, Brock; CSA NM 7: 2 cards, Jenkins and Stargell; CSA ENM 6: 1 card, Gibson. Others - Baker, Bando, Bench (corner stock imperfection), Bonds, Bosman, Colbert, Davis, Epstein (corner ding), Foli, Fosse, Freehan, Harrelson, Kirby, Lolich, Luzinski, Marshall, Mayberry, McCovey, Murcer, Nolan, Perry, Rodriguez, Sanguillen, Scott, Speier, Torre and B. Williams. With a handful of slightly lesser exceptions due to surface wear and two noted above, overall, the collection presents EX/MT to NM+.
