1952 Topps PSA Graded Near Master Set (490) Includes Mantle PSA VG-EX 4 #311! When Sy Berger unleashed the 1952 Topps set upon the world, it is almost certain that he had no idea of the impact that he would have upon the world of collecting. It had the longest checklist of its day. This release was also the first to use colored team logos on the front, and stats from the previous year and career stats on the back. It was also Topps' first large scale foray into the sports trading card market, as the previous year's "Red Backs" and "Blue Backs" could, rightfully, be considered to have been part of a game, rather than cards manufactured specifically for trading and collecting. Of course, when one remembers the fact that some of the most popular and enduring cards in the hobby, particularly the iconic Card #311, Mickey Mantle, were included, it becomes quite obvious that this set was a true landmark.The first eighty cards were printed with either a "Black" back or a "Red" back, and there are several variations present that can make assembling a master set a bit daunting. Luckily, for our winning bidder, this hefty task has already been undertaken almost to completion. Our offered 1952 Topps set is a near-complete master set. All of the tougher high number cards, including the transcendent Mickey Mantle card, are here, as well another great card from the hobby, the rookie card of Eddie Mathews, #407, which is the last card in the set. Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays, Yogi Berra- they are all here. Two cards are missing to complete the master set- #'s 48 Page (Sain Bio, Red Back) and 49 Sain (Page Bio, Red Back). This is a rare opportunity to own this fabulous group.
