    Description

    1952 Parkhurst Baseball Near Set (99/100) - #1 on the SGC Set Registry! Rank: #1 on the SGC Set Registry. This series is rarely offered close to complete. Producing a set of minor league baseball players was a bold and wise move for Parkhurst to make in 1952. The success of hockey cards in the Canadian market was certainly no surprise but baseball was different story. With the success of Bowman and Topps baseball sets in the US, producing this set not only tested the desirability of the product but kept licensing costs to a minimum. The set is noted for pre-rookie cards of Dodgers stars Jim Gilliam and Johnny Podres and Walt Alston. Missing #58 for completion. Graded - SGC 80 EX/NM 6: 1 card, #31; SGC 70 EX+ 5.5: 7 cards, #'s 4, 17, 20, 35, 50, 53 and 66 Alston; SGC 60 EX 5: 28 cards, #'s 6, 11, 16, 18, 22, 24, 25, 28, 30, 32, 40, 54, 57, 59, 60, 62, 64, 67, 70 Cimoli, 76 Podres, 81, 89, 91, 92, 93, 95, 96 and 98; SGC 50 VG/EX 4: 29 cards, #'s 2, 5, 9, 13, 19, 23, 26, 29, 33, 41, 42, 44, 47, 48, 49, 51, 52, 55, 63, 65, 68 Gilliam, 69, 73, 77, 82, 83, 85, 90 and 94; SGC 40 VG 3: 16 cards, #'s 1, 3, 7, 8, 14, 15, 38, 43, 56, 61, 74, 78, 80, 84, 86 and 87; SGC 30 GD 2: 15 cards, #'s 10, 12, 27, 34, 36, 37, 39, 45, 46, 72, 79, 88, 97, 99 and 100; SGC 20 FR 1.5: 3 cards, #'s 21, 71 and 75.
